Overview

Philosophy

The Westbrook Athletics Department recognizes athletics as an essential part of the educational experience, promoting physical health, emotional well-being, and personal growth. Participation in sports teaches teamwork, leadership, discipline, and goal setting while supporting Maine’s Guiding Principles for learning. Westbrook’s athletic programs, from middle school through high school, are designed to provide developmentally appropriate opportunities that emphasize skill development, sportsmanship, integrity, and healthy competition helping every student build confidence, community, and lifelong habits of fitness and resilience.

Coach Expectations

Communicate Philosophy and Team Standards

Treat all student-athletes with respect: “Demanding, but not demeaning.”

Provide a safe practice/game environment

Provide strong training to improve skill and fitness level

Communicate what athlete’s role is on the team and how they can improve

 

Parent/Guardian Expectations

Encourage your student-athlete to advocate for themselves

Support, encourage, and respect your athlete’s coaching staff

Act appropriately at sporting events, both at home and away
