Mission

Philosophy of Athletic and Co-Curricular programming at IMSA

Board of Trustees approved interscholastic athletics and co-curricular activities offer an important part of personal development and overall experience for each student who attends the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy.  Participating in athletic and co-curricular activities is voluntary; however, students are encouraged to become involved in these programs as they are useful tools in the achievement of the goals of a comprehensive education, and provide a pathway to a healthy balance in the development of the “whole person”.  The sound development of the physical and intellectual capacities resulting from participation in athletics and co-curricular activities, complement the social and emotional development of every young man and woman.

While the regular curricular program is a right afforded to each student, participation in athletic and co-curricular programming is a privilege and carries certain expectations beyond those found in a normal classroom situation. Athletics and co-curricular activities are an extension of the classroom experience.  These programs will help to enhance the experiences that the student-athlete receives in the classroom. The fundamental goal of athletics and co-curricular activities at IMSA is to give students directions in developing healthful living habits, self-discipline, positive decision-making, leadership, teamwork, opportunity to participate and have fun, and a general respect for the rules and guidelines.

At IMSA we want to develop consistency, we want to hold the students accountable, and we are here to do what is best for the students.  Participation in athletics and co-curricular activities are important in the development of these pursuits.
